"Real" Paper Snowflakes

When I taught art, I noticed that when my students cut "snowflakes" they often ended up with confetti or something that looked like a doily. I taught them the simple way to cut paper snowflakes that look "real" and a pretty way to display their masterpieces. Materials
1. squares of thin white paper
(the younger the child, the thinner and larger the paper)
2. scissors
3. squares of dark construction paper
(the same size as the white paper)
4. glue
5. white glitter (optional)

1. Fold the paper in sixths and cut off the ends (see diagram)

2. Cut lots of triangles into the two folded sides of the paper. Be sure not to cut all the way through.

3. Unfold the snowflake.

4. Glue to snowflake to the square of construction paper.

5. (Optional) brush glue over the snow flake and sprinkle on glitter.
