House Cats: a poem
suggested by El

Beware! Beware!
There's a cat on the stair!

Though this long lump may lead you to laughter,
Hold onto the rail.
For if you tread on a tail,
You might find yourself tumbling after!

Oh dear and oh dread!
There's a cat on the bed!

And she may seem so small, sweet and furry.
If you dare to suggest
        She might shorten her rest,
You'll be faced with a frown full of fury!

Oh grumble and grouch!
There's a cat on the couch!
And whether he's wakeful or nap-full,

If you position your end
Near your fine feline friend,
Don't be surprised if you soon have a lap-full!

I don't mean to grouse,
But with cats in the house
I'm certain you too
will discover.

No matter how hard you try
You can't walk, sit or lie
Without both'ring
one cat or another!
